The company’s technology not only keeps SWAT operators and LEOs safe, but it also keeps suspects and communities safe as well

Company name: BRINC Drones
Headquarters: Las Vegas, Nev.
Signature Product: The LEMUR

1. Where did your company name originate from?
BRINC Drones stands for Blake Resnick Incorporated, but it also refers to our technology providing a solution for operators that are on the BRINC of making a decision. We are also on the BRINC of a new paradigm of robotics and drone technology that are going to change how public safety operates.

2. What was the inspiration behind starting your company?
Blake Resnick, founder and CEO, started BRINC Drones about three years ago with a different vision for a use case and problem being solved by UAS than what the LEMUR currently offers. Blake’s first product that he built is actually a large-scale self-sustaining drone in a box concept that could provide 24/7 ISR flight missions and security as well as border surveillance.

This product is still in development and will be released in the future, but the inspiration for the LEMUR came from the October 1, 2017, Mandalay Bay shootings at the Route 91 Harvest Festival in Las Vegas. That night and the horrible experience that touched him personally inspired Blake to build a tactical indoor robot that could have prevented that from happening. Ultimately, the mission of the company is to save lives using advanced robotics and technology and to change the way public safety responds to life-threatening situations.

3. What is your signature product and how does it work?
BRINC Drone’s signature product is the LEMUR. The LEMUR is a purpose-built drone meant for flying indoors in a tactical environment to clear rooms as well as locate, isolate and communicate with suspects.

The features and design of the LEMUR allow the drone operator to be a block to three blocks away from the incident and use the drone to breach glass, clear rooms in cluttered and dark environments, and ultimately have two-way communication capabilities with both the suspect and fellow SWAT team members. Other capabilities of the LEMUR include turtle mode (in case the drone lands on its back after a crash), durability, best-in-class flight times, a payload mount that allows the SWAT team to expand their capability set and the ability to distribute a live video feed to anybody who is part of the mission.

4. Why do you believe your products are essential to the law enforcement community?
The LEMUR allows tactical operators to slow down the mission and use technology to give them the time needed to make better decisions. Slowing down a mission is critical to the success of saving lives and helping communities. The ability to have eyes and ears in a dangerous situation without risking the life of a law enforcement officer is why we’ve built the LEMUR.

5. What has been the biggest challenge your company has faced?
That is a fairly long list, but the basic challenges of a start-up company is what we have experienced. Being a new company in the space offering a piece of technology that nobody has ever seen before comes with its own unique set of challenges that we are overcoming because of the quality of our team and advanced technology that we are deploying.

6. What makes your company unique?
What makes BRINC Drones unique is our team, ability to listen to the customer and build tools that are right for them. Our vision is ambitious, but we truly believe that our company will change how public safety and first responders rely on technology to increase the odds of a mission being successful.

7. What do your customers like best about you and your products?
Customers like that we listen, value their opinion and implement their feedback into our solution. They also like that we are filling a major gap in the industry, because, up until this point, an indoor tactical drone has been a void in the toolbox of tactical operators. Our customers also like that we require training and have been thoughtful about how we deploy our solution in a marketplace that does not accept failure.

8. What is the most rewarding part of serving the first responder community?
Helping the first responder community save lives. Our technology not only keeps SWAT operators and LE safe, but it keeps suspects and communities safe as well. We have had numerous customers tell us that without having the LEMUR in their toolbox, one of their friends and fellow officers would have been in harm’s way.

9. Do you support any charitable organizations within public safety?
Yes, NTOA.

10. What’s next for your company? Any upcoming new projects or initiatives?
We have a robust product roadmap that will build from what the LEMUR is currently offering. That includes a combination of new drones, software solutions, and the base station that will continue to give public safety operators new insights and the ability to make better decisions.
